Dubrovnik-Neretva County Tourist Board

Tender for visual identity design

Our design “The Emblem” was chosen as the winner among some of the best Croatian designers (total of 18 submitted proposals) in the design competition published by the Dubrovnik-Neretva County Tourist Board and the Croatian Designers Society.

The jury was composed of Vladimir Bakić, Nikola Dobroslavić, Izvorka Jurić, Maroje Mrduljaš and Sean Poropat who elaborated their decision: “The work was based on a system solution derived from the distinctive leading characteristics of the county in which the perception of tourists and citizens overlaps.

The leading features are then associated with the symbols that are recognizable as those of the City of Dubrovnik, as well as the surrounding county: the sun, Dubrovnik walls, ships and boats, agricultural products, islands and water. Each of these “icons” were associated with one grapheme – simple linear form – which has developed graphic language of main sign and its mutation in applications for individual physiognomic units of the County, as well as for other applications such as cultural institutions, theme parks or research centers.”

The jury has rated the system grapheme sufficiently understandable, visually coherent and especially interesting as they develop different stories told in a very concise visual and symbolic language. The solution is graphichally reduced enough to be easily applicable in a variety of formats and contexts, while retaining readability and recognition. Finally, the harmonizes modern aesthetics and kind of timeless quality.

Our collaboration with the Tourist Board was sucessfully continued, hence we designed the tourist brochure for the client, calendars for the years 2018,2019 and 2020, various promotional materials and developed a website.
