Visual identity of Dubrovnik and riviera

Our work called Emblem won between 18 ones submitted in the competition by TC Dubrovnik-Neretva County and Croatian Designers Society.
The competition was very strong because competitiors were one of the best Croatian designers. The jury was composed of: Vladimir Bakic, Nikola Dobroslavić, Izvorka Juric, Maroje Mrduljaš and Sean Poropat and this is how they explained their decision (excerpt):
The work is based on a system solution derived from the distinctive leading characteristics of the county, and in which the perception of tourists and citizens overlaps. The leading features are then associated with the symbols that are common with the City of Dubrovnik and the county also: the sun, the walls, ships and boats, agricultural products, islands and water. Each of these “icons” are associated with one grapheme – simple linear form – which has developed graphic language of main sign and its mutation in applications for individual physiognomic units of the County, but also for all the other applications such as cultural institutions, theme parks or research centers.
The jury has rated the system grapheme sufficiently understandable and visually coherent, and it is especially interesting as they develop different stories told in a very concise visual and symbolic language. The solution is reduced graphic enough to be easily applicable in a variety of formats and contexts, while retaining readability and recognition. Also, the solution is not trendy but harmonizes modern aesthetics and kind of timeless quality.
